The astronauts set to helm the first crewed moon mission in fifty years were announced on Monday, preparing to undergo training for the groundbreaking Artemis II lunar flight scheduled for blast off in November 2024.

The crew for the historic mission will consist of NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency.

Reid Wiseman, a distinguished naval aviator and test pilot, will act as the commander of the Artemis II mission. With his expertise and background in spaceflight, Wiseman is well-equipped to lead the team successfully.

Jeremy Hansen, a fighter pilot chosen by the Canadian Space Agency for astronaut training, will be the first Canadian to travel to deep space, marking a significant milestone for Canadian space exploration.

Victor Glover, a seasoned naval aviator, has an impressive track record, including his role piloting the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and spending nearly six months aboard the International Space Station. Glover brings a wealth of experience to the mission.

Christina Koch, a veteran of multiple spacewalks and a record holder with the longest single spaceflight by a woman, will bring her expertise as an electrical engineer to the team. Her dedication and experience will be invaluable for the Artemis II mission.

Artemis II follows the successful Artemis I uncrewed test mission and is expected to build upon its achievements. The mission will be a crucial step towards future lunar explorations and eventually reaching Mars, in line with NASA’s long-term goals.

With the launch set for November 2024, the crew members will embark on a journey that will take them beyond the moon and potentially set a new record for the farthest distance traveled by humans in space.
