Twitter recently made headlines when they replaced their traditional bird icon with an image of a Shiba Inu, seemingly in reference to dogecoin, the joke cryptocurrency that Elon Musk is currently facing a lawsuit over. Musk acknowledged the change on Monday, sharing an old conversation where a user suggested changing the Twitter logo to a doge. This switch happened shortly after Musk sought to dismiss a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit related to his alleged involvement in supporting dogecoin.

Musk’s legal team dismissed the lawsuit as a “fanciful work of fiction” in response to claims made by dogecoin investors. It is unclear whether the logo change on Twitter is permanent, as Musk is known for using the platform to play pranks on followers and critics alike.

Despite the controversy, the price of dogecoin surged by more than 20% in the past 24 hours, reaching around 9 cents, up from just under 8 cents on Monday. Created as a joke by two software engineers on December 6, 2013, dogecoin takes its name from the popular “doge” meme that emerged a decade ago. The Shiba Inu mascot of the cryptocurrency reflects this meme, with a dog surrounded by Comic Sans text in broken English.
