Summer McIntosh, the sixteen-year-old swimming sensation, has shattered the world record for the 400m individual medley at the Canadian swimming trials over the weekend. This incredible feat comes just days after she also broke the world record for the 400m freestyle.
McIntosh clocked in at an impressive time of 4:25.87 in the 400m individual medley, surpassing the record previously held by Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszú from the 2016 Rio Olympics. Her remarkable performance continues a stellar week where she previously broke defending Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus’ record in the 400m freestyle.
After her latest victory, McIntosh expressed her emotions, highlighting the support of the crowd. “That’s the first time I really vividly heard the crowd during my race,” said McIntosh. “It’s amazing to have all my family and friends in the stands, cheering me on. It really helped me in the last 100 meters.”
Having made her Olympic debut at just 14 years old during Tokyo 2020, McIntosh has since achieved significant success in various competitions, including gold medals in the world championships and Commonwealth Games.
